My Reflection

My Reflection
Having started this unit i was unsure as to what i was going into and what i would be learning about but having completed this unit i am much more aware and very excited to learn more about Media Studies. Once i got into the tasks i found them enjoyable and didnt find them a 'chore' like some homework but was happy to be doing them and pleased with myself when i was able to complete them. I have learnt how to start a blog and the different aspects of it E.G including images, video's and links to your posts to make them more enjoyable and understanding. My favorite part of the task was the TV drama task because i love television programmes and movies, so to be able to study and use them as part of my work is very exciting and enjoyable. I now feel much more confident about starting A-Level Media and are most looking forward to finding out what new things i will learn and study.

Marking My Own Work
Reading the Marking Criteria/Assessment Method i would give myself 11 or 12 marks, because i feel i have successfully completed what i need to gain these marks.

If i were to do the task over again i would include more detail and refer more to what i have done/learned, and make my ability to communicate better.

Media Guardian

Prince Harry in a suit

Whilst reading the Media Guardian I found the article involving Prince Harry's Las Vegas pictures very interesting. I find this article most interesting because it is happening at the moment and lots of different people have lots of different opinions. The article is about the Prince's latest trip to Las Vegas with friends where he was involved in many party games ending in naked photo's of him being leaked onto the internet and the controversy of it. Many people believe it was an invasion of privacy the pictures being leaked at all but to then be published in a well known newspaper extremely unfair. Singer Charlotte Church said "The pictures were available on the net if you wanted to see them and if you wanted to form your own opinion. I don't think they [the Sun] needed to go that step further to print them".

Title Screen

Pretty Little Liars: Season 2 Episode 22 - This episode shows the four girls at their annual father daughter dance hosted by their school Rosewood High. The episode focus' on the parents involvement through 'A', for the first time the parents are directly targeted by 'A' and are starting to get more and more suspicious of the girls and their secrets. The episode named "Father Knows Best" is brilliantly directed and gets the audience very involved and constantly wanting more.
I focused on two main characters throughout the episode:
Spencer Hastings
In this episode Spencer is represented as hardworking and smart, she is constantly on the ball and trying to figure out everything she doesn't fully understand. She comes across and confident and understanding but begins to show strain in this episode when she realizes she can't even fully trust her family.

Aria Montgomery
In this episode Aria is represented as someone who fights for what she cares and loves for, she is confident and able to stand up for what she believes in even if it means going against the opinions of people she truly cares about. She is named 'best at hiding the truth from loved ones' during this episode. Aria comes across and mature and insightful.

Representation

Definition

Understanding representation is all about understanding the choices that are made when it comes to portraying something or someone in a mass media text. It's impossible to portray every aspect of an individual in a photograph, or even in a feature film, so certain features of their personality and appearance get highlighted, and are often enhanced, when it comes to constructing the representation that the audience will see. When representing a person, media texts often focus on their: Age, Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Financial Status, Job, Culture/Nationality. This actual definition is courtesy of mediaknowall
My Definition
My definition of 'representation' is the way a characters features are highlighted or enhanced so that the audience can better understand them. Features often highlighted are age, gender, race/ethnicity, financial status, job, culture/nationality.
